I made some cookies for a baby shower that a friend of mine attended this past weekend. I’m really loving the color of these. This springtime weather we are having lately is very fitting for the pastel spring-like colors!
I hadn’t broken out my sailboat cookie cutter in probably 5+ years, so that was a fun one to make. The teddy bears are easily one of my all-time favorites. I made half the bears with the solid brown flood icing and the other half with different designs using all of the colors in the batch. I know some people don’t like a ton of icing on their cookies, and it’s also fun to play with different designs.
I’m really happy with how they turned out and it sounds like they were a hit at the party! Thank you, Jennifer! I am already working on my next couple of orders, so you will be seeing those soon. I will be making some for a St. Patty’s Day birthday and also some for Easter.
Cheers to my favorite holiday of the year! What’s not to like? Spending time with the ones we love while eating some ridiculously delicious food. I have so much to be thankful for this past year – creating and maintaining laurenscookiejar.com is one of them! I’ve had a passion for baking since I can remember, so creating this blog has been a lot of fun for me.
I made A LOT of Thanksgiving/Fall cookies this year. I’m really flattered that my cookies will be on some tables (other than just my own) for this great holiday!! I also made some for the Thanksgiving Potluck lunch at my office.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and are as fortunate as I am to be surrounded by your nearest and dearest!!!
Now back to my most recent batch. This order came from a good friend and coworker of mine for a baby shower this past weekend. The mom-to-be has decided not to find out if she’s having a boy or a girl, so we went with both blue and pink cookies.
This batch will look a little familiar – considering I used a picture of them as the background for this blog when it was originally launched. I actually made these cookies a couple years ago, but they are still one of my favorite batches to date. (I probably say that a lot.) But these were rather unique. A friend of mine approached me about making a custom batch of cookies for a baby shower she was attending for a coworker.
She sent me links to the bedding that the mom-to-be had registered for and asked if I could use the colors and at least one of the shapes in there as a guide. Here are the pics I was given:
I knew the colors would be pretty easy to match, and narrowed the shapes down to the leaf, the owl, and the frog. I got really lucky and happened to find an owl cookie cutter that was very similar to the owl in the bedding. I have to be honest though, I didn’t have a lot of confidence that I’d be able to make them look like the owl on those sheets. Fingers were crossed big time on these…
Side note: I’ve learned a few random things since starting this blog and posting these pics:
I desperately need new cookie sheets – mine are looking pretty sad
My photography skills are lacking (but you get the point)
Like I was saying – I’m a horrible photographer, but this one makes me laugh so I had to post it. I love how every owl looks he’s looking in a different direction. Kinda creepy.
Special thanks to Lindsey for the order for these cookies!
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I will be working on Christmas cookies very soon, but I have some other ideas in the mix for this month as well. Suggestions always welcome!
One of my dearest friends here in Raleigh was out on maternity leave for the last couple of months. As happy and excited as I was for her to welcome her adorable baby boy to the world, I missed her terribly at the office. I wanted to make sure that she felt welcome and missed when she came back. I know that she and her family have always been fans of my sugar cookies, so I thought, why not surprise her by leaving cookies on her desk for when she came back to work?
As you can (and will) see, I find all kinds of reasons and occasions to make cookies. You wouldn’t believe all the different types of cookie cutters you can find out there!
As always, please feel free to reply to this post with any ideas for future batches/comments/questions.
