Ohio Wedding

These cookies were made for a bridal shower/bachelorette weekend in Ohio for a wedding taking place on July 3rd. A dear friend of mine asked me to make cookie favor bags for the bride and her request was inspired by the last batch that I did for my brother’s wedding. So I was able to pull out the edible markers again and try something a little different out with those. We were originally going to use the bride and groom’s initials, but it looked a lot better when I wrote out their names instead. I added the wedding date at the bottom with the pink hearts to add a pop of color and match the other small cookie hearts in the bag. The wedding colors are blush pink and bright pink with touches of silver – so that’s where the silver diamond rings came in.

As I mentioned in my last post – it is very important to let the icing sit for several hours (ideally overnight) before writing with the edible markers to prevent bleed. I even left them under a ceiling fan overnight. Can’t be too cautious right? 🙂

My brother is getting married!

I knew I wanted to do something special for my brother’s wedding, but it took me a while to decide on the details. I’ve made cookies for a few weddings, but I wanted to try something a little different. I thought the cursive L would make for cool looking cookie, and I couldn’t find a cookie cutter that shape anywhere. So I actually had this cookie cutter custom made. I took an image of a cursive L and created a shape around it so I knew that it would fit. Ended up with what looks like an amoeba, but the finished product was exactly what I wanted 🙂

The rest was pretty easy. I used some edible markers to write love on the background of the cookies and I used the colors of the wedding (navy blue and gold). I’m really happy with how they turned out. They were the favors for the rehearsal dinner and they were quite a hit! Some people there were already aware of my minor cookie decorating obsession/hobby, but many others had never seen any of them before and couldn’t believe I hand-wrote love on the background of all the cookies. That was actually really easy! I found a few brands of edible markers on Amazon – these are the ones I used.

20150603_225029 20150603_225250 2015-06-04 11.19.22One mistake I made was starting to write on them too soon. I let the white icing sit for probably 3 or 4 hours and that was nowhere near long enough. They didn’t bleed right away, but the next day, they were a mess. I had to remake quite a few of them. So lesson learned there. The royal icing should really sit overnight before you do anything like that.

The gold L was made by just using some yellow colored icing and covering it with gold sprinkles before it dried. They are the same sprinkles I use for the diamond ring cookies. The mini hearts were just an added touch. I made 4 different designs and there were 3 in each bag (one behind the big cookie that you can’t see). I highly recommend using these treat bags by Wilton. The shape makes it much easier to arrange the cookies and tie them up and they are the perfect size for small favors like these.

Congratulations to Meg & Josh! I’m off to get ready for the wedding!

Bachelorette Sweets

I’ve done a handful of bachelorette party orders now and I’ve learned quickly that there is a very broad range of what people like to have at these events 😉 Sadly some of them are not suitable for this blog, but this order was a perfect fit!

Bra & Panty Cookies

I used bikini-shaped cookie cutters and changed up the colors and decorating to make them a little more fitting for the occasion

Diamond Ring Cookies

Some of my old favorites! They’re quite popular and I love making them 🙂

Engagement Ring Cookies

I have a couple more batches I’ll be working on over the next few weeks, so come back and visit soon! It’s been nice to get back into baking. Even spoiled myself a bit with some new baking pans, tools, and cookie cutters. I actually got my very first custom cookie cutter recently. You’ll be seeing the end result of that one soon!

If you’re in the Raleigh area, you should check out Whisk Carolina in Cary. Great products, cooking classes, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. My new favorite store!

She Said Yes!!!

I know it’s been months since I posted last.  I don’t tend to bake a lot when it’s 90 degrees outside, but I’ve been itching to bet back in the habit lately.  And boy did I have a great reason to get back to it!

Another engagement between two amazing people, Andrea and Justin, who just happen to be great friends of mine!  Now that he has proposed, I can finally say that I was so excited to get to be a small part of proposal.  Justin is easily one of the most thoughtful guys I’ve ever met, and he cooked up quite a surprise weekend for Andrea in Asheville, NC.  I got a message from him that started like this…

So I hope you are able to keep a secret because I am going to let you in on a big one. I am getting ready to propose to Andrea. And I need a little help from you to set the stage….

I froze.  I work with Andrea and she sits pretty much right behind me.  I wasn’t sure if she was there or not when I was reading the message, but I also know I am horrible at containing emotion on any level and I was not about to ruin this surprise, so I just didn’t move until she left the building.  Which luckily was only 10 minutes later, ha!

The “little help” he needed was for me to delivery a surprise mystery package to her without her knowing where it came from.  It was a box filled with some hints for an upcoming weekend – including one saying she needed to pack a bag and request off October 10th from work.   I am a horrible liar yet somehow pulled off quite a show when she asked if I knew where the box came from that magically appeared on her desk.  Who me?  No, Andrea, I have no idea how that box magically appeared on your desk once you FINALLY left for a moment to run to the bathroom 😉  (Thank you to everyone on our side of the building that didn’t rat me out btw)  Now I just had to keep my mouth shut for 3 more weeks.  No. Big. Deal.  What?!

Their weekend was a great success and these two lovebirds are going to tie the knot!!!

Shower Time!

I know haven’t posted in a while.  But that’s just because I was saving up for an extra special one. Two of my favorite people are getting married!!!  Yes, I’ve told you all this already – Rachel and Tyler.  I made some engagement cookies for them last year.  Well this past weekend, I threw the beautiful bride a shower.  So of course I found a way to work some cookies into the party 🙂

I am posting a bunch of pics of the party as well because, well, why not?  I had the best time planning it with my mom and I am pretty proud of how it turned out. Rachel already has such a beautiful theme for her wedding, so I just went right along with it.

She Sells Sea Shells

I was able to try out another new cookie cutter this week – the conch shell!  I had a sea shell cookie cutter, but hadn’t used it in a few years.  I was asked to make shell cookies for a rehearsal dinner for a beach-themed wedding and I wanted a couple of varieties of shapes.  Since I had never made the conch shells before, I wasn’t sure how I was going to decorate them, but it kind of evolved over a the course of a few days.  I kept adding a little more detail until I was happy with the way they looked.

So they started out like this…

ImageThen I decided to make them a lil different on the other side…

ImageBut it still felt like something was missing – so that’s where the rest of the detail came in.

I’ve made these sea shells before, but I forgot how much I like them 🙂  I was sticking to all pastel colors, and I tried to keep them in colors that would compliment each other since they were going to be packed in pairs and tied with navy blue ribbon.Image

I even threw in a few of the octopus cookies for fun 🙂  How cute is that lil guy all wrapped up?!

I know that’s a lot of pictures, but these cookies were a long process.  I really enjoyed making them.

I love love love summertime, so these summer-themed cookies are just the best!

Until next time…

Cocktail Party Favors

I was fortunate enough to be asked to make cookies for not only a bridal shower this past weekend, but also a cocktail party.  I’ve done champagne glasses a few times now for a few different events, and tried out some beer mugs as well.  This time, I got a request for both wine glasses and beer mugs.  I hadn’t done wine glasses before, so so I was anxious to try it.  These cookie favors are fun to do too.  I think they look so cute individually wrapped.  What do you think?

Phase 1 of the wine glasses – just need to add the wine! ImageImageImageImage

These cookies were made for a cocktail party celebrating the wedding of a good friend of mine.  She has been super supportive of me with all this cookie chaos the last few months, and I was really flattered that her family asked me to make them for her party.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I will have more to post soon 🙂

Bridal Shower Cookies

Happy Friday!

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post.  I’ve been so busy actually making cookies (and working) to be able to post about making cookies.  I’m trying to catch up.  I have a couple batches to post about, but I wanted to start with this one.  This order was just picked up yesterday for a bridal shower this weekend.  It was an order I received after making the bridesmaids cookies that I posted in January.  Very similar order, but different colors.

Since these were cookies that I have done before, I feel like I’m getting  a little better at them.  People have asked me if I get bored making the same types of cookies for multiple orders – definitely not.  I feel like each time I make a certain shape/style of cookie, I improve it in some way.  I learn from the time before.  I either find a more efficient way to do it, or find ways to make it look just a little bit better.  So I like getting the practice.  Plus I’m always trying new things with design.  Keeps it fun!

I hope you all have a great weekend!  I will be posting more very soon 🙂

Cookie Favors for Bridesmaids!

I was recently asked to make some cookie favors for the bridal party of one of my good friends, Laura. We talked about a few options, and she seemed to be a big fan of the champagne glasses I had made for NYE and the diamond rings.  We also thought that hearts would always work to add some extra color.  She sent me a pic of her bridesmaids dresses so I could try to match the blue.  Here is what I came up with:

I’ve changed up the rings a little bit – added posts to the side instead of the diamond taking up the entire top of the cookieImage

Love is in the air

Happy Saturday everyone!

I got to try out my skills on some more diamond ring cookies, thanks to an order from my awesome friend, Andrea.  I have to say, these are some of my favorite ones to make.  I changed them up a little bit from the original batch I did in an earlier post.  I was able to find a small circle cookie cutter that fits perfectly inside the diamond ring cookie cutter.  So you’ll see that the ring itself is thinner this time – making the diamond stand out a little more.
